In a small franchising company which is growing fast and always under a cash flow crisis, it is essential to keep all franchisees profitable to prevent lawsuits, maintain royalty income streams and attract new franchisees who see their success in the market place.
Having been a Founder of a Small Franchise Company, which grew rapidly into a Medium Sized Franchise Company prior to my early retirement and sale of the company, I can tell you that the most important thing is to have successful franchisees in the market place. One way I achieved this was constantly motivating the team. Here below is an excerpt of one of the letters I had put out on our Intranet System, which illustrates one strategy of motivation, which worked so well for our franchise team;
| MoneyMoz recommended article: Affiliate Marketing as Extra Income Affiliate marketing is cheap to set up, being a home business. Apart from setting up the home office itself, there are more costs involved in setting it up and get it running smoothly. Stuff like office tables, chairs and other home office accessories can get a little expensive depending on your choices, tastes and aesthetic sense. The other costs involved will be at your induction into the affiliate marketing industry. To generate that extra income you will need to invest in finding web space, registering your own domain name and building your own website that would involve about $100 a year in recurring costs. This can be reduced by using template options for your website. Select a template that is professional looking, clean, aesthetic template and edit it to put in your information. Invest time, money and space well in quality content, although it will take a little time and patience, make sure the website is easy to read while fulfilling the needs of being an affiliate site. This will go a long way in securing more hits adding to your objective of extra income generation. Volunteering for a Networking Group When is it appropriate to volunteer to take a position in the group? Have you heard the saying that "the fastest way to get anything done is to ask a busy person"? It is very true. What it actually boils down to is the fact that busy people are often very well organized and have the ability to delegate some of their tasks. A busy person can usually fit more into their schedule than most people. For example, I am working a full time job which takes at least 55 hours a week, plus I am completing studies for a doctoral degree. That seems like a busy person but that is not all I have on my plate: I also own a company that provides sales process consulting, I volunteer as the Historian for my Rotary District, I make time to exercise twice daily, I tend to my family and write books. On top of all this I still have time to volunteer for committee work at the Chamber of Commerce and spend time with my family. How do I accomplish so much? I organize my day and my week ahead of time and slot everything into its place. |
“If you wish to have a new car by the second quarter, then write down the type of car, options and color and the date you wish to get it (pick Yellow). Also write down the amount of money you will need to afford it. Then the amount of increased business you will need to buy it and break it down by month. If in the third quarter you want to get lazer eye surgery or take a vacation write down where and how much. If in the forth quarter you want to increase sales by 130% then back it to the first quarter and the then the second and third to figure out the increase you will need to achieve each month to get there. Remember that we need this information to help you achieve your goals, if we do not know what goals you have it will be difficult for us to give you assistance towards those goals.”
I sincerely hope my experience, observations and knowledge in the motivating of franchisees and franchise teams gives you insight to winning in the market place. Please consider this in 2006, because you know what? It works and it is not in the text books, had to learn this one the hard way.

I reply that I'm not a motivational speaker. Never have been. Never will be. Don't want to be. I do something else. I teach their people how to become motivational leaders. That's a far more productive endeavor. The concept and application of motivation are misunderstood in most organizations. The motivational industry is based on a fundamental contradiction; because the focus of motivation is misplaced. After all, leaders (salespeople included) should be motivated.
